New York, New York

Sarah Wilson November 3, 2014

I spent all of last week in New York City.  I walked and walked, and ate great food, and went to a movie at my old neighborhood theater, and saw some of my favorite New York-based friends who entered my life years ago. Sorry I didn't have time to see everyone!

While I had fabulous time, this wasn't exactly a vacation.  The purpose of the trip was to attend the NYC Fotoworks Review and the Palm Springs Portfolio Review at PhotoPlus.  Over the course of five days, I met with 31 reviewers from the photography industry (gallery and museum curators, magazine photo editors, art buyers from advertising agencies, book publishers, consultants, and agents).

I showed my commercial and editorial work as well as my personal projects, and got some awesome feedback.  For those who have not been to a review,  they are a great way to see several potential clients in a concentrated amount of time.  You end up paying for it, but I truly think it's worth it.  One of the best perks about attending one of these events, is that it gives you a deadline. Knowing I was going to be attending these two reviews gave me a jump start to creating a new portfolio book (see image above- thank you Jace Graf of Cloverleaf Studios), a new logo (this time simpler), and a new, more mobile-friendly website.  It was a lot of work, and I'm glad to be on the other side of it.

A big thank you to all of my reviewers from last week for your valuable feedback and thank you to New York City for providing good, reel, grungy, beautiful energy.
